A Foundation Built on
Trust & Expertise
Blacksburg Neurology, P.C. was founded on June 28, 2005, with a clear and unwavering mission: to bring specialist-level neurological care to the residents of the New River Valley and the surrounding communities of Southwest Virginia — care that had previously required patients to travel hours to larger metropolitan centers.
In the nearly two decades since our founding, we have grown from a small specialty practice into one of the most trusted neurological clinics in the region. Our longevity is a direct reflection of the relationships we have built — with patients, with families, and with the broader medical community of Christiansburg, Blacksburg, Radford, and beyond.
Led by Dr. Joe Huntsman, our practice has always prioritized depth of care over volume. We believe that a successful neurology practice is not measured by the number of patients seen in a day, but by the quality of the outcomes we help those patients achieve. This philosophy has guided every decision we have made — from the technology we invest in to the staff we hire.
Our office at 90 College Street in Christiansburg is designed to be welcoming, calm, and professional — a space where patients feel at ease discussing sensitive neurological symptoms and where our team can focus fully on delivering the highest standard of care.

Our Philosophy
Medicine is Personal.
So is Our Care.
The Patient at the Center
At Blacksburg Neurology, P.C., every clinical decision begins and ends with the patient. We do not believe in one-size-fits-all neurology. The nervous system is extraordinarily complex, and the conditions that affect it are equally varied. Our approach begins with listening — truly listening — to understand not just your symptoms, but your history, your lifestyle, your concerns, and your goals. Only then can we craft a treatment plan that is genuinely right for you.
Modern Diagnostics, Timeless Compassion
We maintain our diagnostic capabilities on-site, including electroencephalography (EEG) and electromyography (EMG) with nerve conduction studies. This means faster answers, fewer referrals, and a more cohesive care experience. But technology is only as valuable as the clinician interpreting it. Our team brings decades of specialized training to every reading, ensuring that the data we gather translates into meaningful, actionable insight for your care.
Continuity You Can Count On
In a healthcare landscape increasingly dominated by large systems and rotating physicians, we remain committed to something simpler: you see the same doctor, every visit. This continuity allows Dr. Huntsman to build a deep understanding of your neurological health over time — tracking subtle changes, recognizing patterns, and adjusting treatment with a level of nuance that is only possible when a physician truly knows their patient.
A Trusted Partner in Long-Term Health
Many neurological conditions are chronic and require ongoing management across months or years. We take this responsibility seriously. Our practice is structured to support long-term relationships — with accessible scheduling, responsive communication, and a team that remembers who you are when you walk through the door. We are not just treating a condition; we are partnering with you in the long-term stewardship of your neurological health.
